This year Amazon's Prime Day has been postponed from its usual July occurrence, but people living in Tennessee still have something of a sale to look forward to. 

Tennesseans can cash in of their state-wide tax-free shopping weekend in the last weekend in July.

When is Tennessee’s tax-free weekend?

The Tennessee 2020 tax-free weekend begins 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 31 and runs until Sunday, Aug. 2 at 11:59 p.m.

During that point, the state tax of seven present is going to be waived on eligible items, including clothing, school supplies and computers.

Items you'll buy tax-free in Tennessee

During Tennessee’s state tax holiday, you'll buy the subsequent without paying sales tax:

  • Clothing priced $100 or less per item: Includes shirts, pants, jackets, socks, shoes, dresses, etc.

How Tennessee’s tax-free weekend works

Sales tax is going to be waived on eligible items automatically at checkout.

Note that, if you purchase an item priced at quite $100, tax is due on the whole price (not just the quantity exceeding $100).

Online orders qualify for tax-free weekend, as long as you place the order during the vacation period.

Is it worthwhile to buy during the tax-free weekend?

It may seem too early to buy for college, but the last weekend in July may be a great time to buy. Supplementary to the waived tax, which amounts to a 7% discount, you'll cash in of retailers’ summer sales. Summer clothing, for instance, are going to be deeply discounted, as retailers clear the racks for fall.

Plus, some electronics retailers, including Best Buy, offer back-to-school student pricing on computers this point of the year. So, added to waived taxes, you'll get a further discount on a replacement computer.

Does Tennessee's tax-free weekend apply to online purchases?

Yes. Any eligible item that's purchased online will qualify for the tax exemption as long because the item is purchased during the tax-free holiday period beginning July 31 at 12:01 a.m. and ending at 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 2.
